Mary Jane Espina is a Ph.D candidate in applied plant sciences at the University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on identifying the genetic basis underlying the resistance to iron deficiency chlorosis in soybean. Originally from the Philippines, she also has a fascination with a vegetable called jute mallow, a staple for millions. She sits down with Marc Zienkiewicz to talk about her work and how the sport of tennis has taught her some valuable lessons for work and life.
